Why I Believe In The Impossible
Well actually let me rephrase, I believe in what a lot of people think is impossible.
“The impossible could not have happened, therefore the impossible must be possible in spite of appearances.” Agatha Christie
Two interesting pieces of information came into the office over the last week.
The first was an email from a manager in one of our clients’ businesses telling me that someone we placed recently had already been promoted to consultant because they had billed over £60k within their first 2 months with the firm.
The second was hearing from someone who we placed a year ago who had just closed a deal with a fee of £82k!
Most people in recruitment do not believe that this level of performance is possible. Do you?
Were they lucky? The non-believers will of course say that it was all down to luck, but when I spoke to the second consultant, he had 2 more deals of around £40k waiting to drop this month, so his £82k fee wasn’t a fluke. The first guy also has no intention of dropping his performance now that he’s been promoted, in fact the exact opposite, so what other factors were at play?
I asked the second guy, and after chatting it through, we agreed that if you do the following two things you are likely to be very successful as a recruiter:
– Sounding credible when you’re on the phone, and;
– Keep picking up the phone.
Of course, there are many other factors, and many factors that would lead to the above 2, but these in my opinion are fundamental. Both of them are also very possible!
This is a theme whenever I talk to big billers and ask them about their success, they always talk about doing things that are very possible. The thing is they do them over and over again.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle
